What is it?Harmonic Planet is a Winnipeg based “World Music” house concert project created to unite people in a cross-cultural musical sharing by organizing fantastic live concerts right in the living rooms of committed community volunteer participants. The objective of Harmonic Planet is to musically celebrate and engender cultural solidarity between Canadians from different backgrounds and to celebrate the depth of musical wealth that artists from everywhere have brought to Canada. Harmonic Planets is designed to provide a whole new opportunity for these artists to build a fan base and for the audience to make new discoveries. It’s a hands-on, fun opportunity for people who love music and for people who like to make things happen. How does it work?A house concert is exactly what it says it is. It’s a full concert by an artist delivered in the living room with the same gusto and skill as if it were a concert hall or festival stage. House concerts of all kinds exist across North America and enjoy an extraordinarily committed audience. People pay to get in and sit quietly and listen. Harmonic Planet is a project of Home Routes, which is a nationally based not-for-profit house concert network that operates from Alberta to Ontario. What we do is recruit community based volunteers into circuits of 12 houses and we offer artists 12 shows in a two-week period. We do this six times a year in Sept, Oct, Nov, Feb, Mar and April. Home Routes creates circuits that stretch hundreds of kilometers. In contrast, Harmonic Planet is an urban program, based on a single city circuit.
